SIMPLE SUSTAINABILITY

These homeowners weren’t looking for just another pretty yard—they wanted a place that fit their new season of life. Wide pastures, a few chickens, maybe even a donkey or two, and a garden that could bloom with color and pollinators without asking for constant attention. The goal was simple: low-maintenance beauty with plenty of room to breathe.

DESIGN CHALLENGE

OUR APPROACH

We started by keeping what the land had already given—repurposing existing trees and plants—then built on it with layers of natives and her favorite purple pollinators. Lavender, catmint, and Russian sage weave through the beds, rosemary and evergreens give structure, and cheerful whites from Shasta daisies mingle with golden Baptisia in summer.

Most importantly, we left open space—so instead of spending weekends working, they can spend them gathering with friends, walking the fields, and enjoying the view. The result is a landscape that feels alive, easy, and deeply theirs.

The land was beautiful, but it needed to be shaped into something more personal—low-maintenance, sustainable, and full-of-life. They hoped to keep the natural character, repurpose what was already growing, and highlight her favorite purple blooms, all while leaving space to simply breathe.
